Our mission at Octave is to promote sustainability by offering both first-life battery systems and repurposing end-of-life batteries from electric vehicles into valuable sources of energy storage. Our in-house developed Energy Management System for intelligent control of battery systems, solar panels, and charging stations ensures smart and sustainable energy consumption at our clients' sites.

As the e-mobility sector is booming, so are concerns over the sustainability of lithium-ion batteries. At Octave, we engage in a circular economy and lower the overall carbon footprint of our batteries.

Maxime Snick

Co-Founder & CEO

Maxime holds an MSc in Chemical Engineering and an MSc in Energy management. He is an international expert in the energy markets, with extensive experience at key players in the power market, such as EPEX SPOT (Europe’s leading power exchange), ENTSO-E, Elia, ENGIE and Brugel.

Jonas Engels

Co-Founder & CTO

Jonas earned his Phd summa cum laude, while researching the topic of optimal control of battery energy storage systems in the electricity market. During and after his PhD, Jonas worked as an R&D engineer at one of Europe’s leading energy startups (REstore, now CBS) where he played a key role in developing REstore’s battery optimization capabilities.

Nicolas Quintin

Co-Founder & Head of Data

Nicolas is an energy engineer and data analytics wizard. He has worked for major European utilities (Total Energies and ENGIE) as a power trader and a quantitative analyst. Nicolas also worked as a Battery Data Engineer at Gogoro in Taiwan, a world-class leader in battery swapping technology for light-weight electric vehicles.

Amaury Carval

Embedded System Engineer

Amaury graduated with a Master in Electrical Engineering at Polytech'Lille. He has a background in embedded system engineering and combines experience from the automotive industry and the startup world.

Louise Van Isterdael

Chief Commercial Officer

Louise has an MSc in Business Engineering. She started her career in ENGIE’s energy trading department and has more than 5 years of experience in developing onshore wind energy projects.

Sam Vandemaele

Electrical Design Engineer

Sam is freshly graduated with a master of Electrical Engineering Technology from the University of Ghent. He is currently following the Postgraduate Program in Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Engineering while pursuing an internship at Octave

Karel Florizoone

Business Development Manager

Karel obtained a Bachelor of Business Administration and started his career at Scholt Energy. Meanwhile he has more than 4 years of B2B sales experience in the energy industry. He is also a co-owner of the family-owned honey company MELI.

Svend Vanderveken

Software & Devops Engineer

With more than 20 years of experience in software engineering and data engineering, Svend's expertise is focussed on streaming pipelines, event driven architectures and cloud computing. He has been a team member of two successful startups already: Mnubo (Montreal) and Real Impact Analytics (Brussels).

Loïc Defour

Data Scientist

Loïc is an applied mathematician specialized in Artificial Intelligence. He has contributed his expertise as a Data Science Consultant at McKinsey & Company, focusing on serving heavy industry clients, and subsequently as a Data Science Manager at UCB, a prominent global biopharmaceutical company.

Abdulmajid Kamar

Marketing Specialist

Abdulmajid has a vast background and extensive experience in top level organisational marketing management spanning across 3 continents in 5 years. With an MSc in International Marketing Strategy at Hasselt University in view, he is currently engaged in an internship at Octave.

Justin Foguenne

Finance & HR Manager

Justin holds an MSc in Business Engineering and is a CEMS graduate. Following his role in Private Equity at Bain & Company, he joined Toqua as Head of Operations & Finance to drive the decarbonization of shipping. His passion for battery technology shines through in his master's dissertation on dynamic wireless charging.

Pieter Bolckmans

Business Development Manager

Pieter holds a Bachelor's degree in Energy Technology with a specialization in electrical energy. Over the past 8 years, Pieter has worked as a Business Developer for several of the top 5 EPC solar installation companies. In his previous job, Pieter already developed several Octave projects, which only increased his enthusiasm for Octave.

Melina Schlachter

Full Stack Developer

Melina is a recently graduated Full Stack Developer with expertise in popular web development tools like Django and React.js. Throughout her training she gained hands-on experience in building dynamic and responsive web applications, which significantly deepened her passion for the field.

Julien Lamandé

Backend Developer

Julien Lamandé is a backend developer with master’s degrees in AI from Sherbrooke University and IT from EFREI School. He has over seven years of experience, served as full stack ML Engineer at GSK in Belgium, where he specialized in machine learning, data engineering, and big data solutions. Previously, he worked as a software designer at Alstom, focusing on basic software development in RTOS environments. Julien is proficient in Python, C++, ADA, Java, and cloud technologies like Azure and Databricks.

Hamidreza Behi

Research Manager

Hamidreza holds a PhD in Science Engineering, with a research focus on battery thermal management systems. During his PhD at Vrije Universiteit Brussel, he actively contributed to several European and national projects. Following the completion of his doctorate, Hamidreza served as a Senior Mechanical Cell Engineer at Dyson and later as a Research & Platform Manager at Université libre de Bruxelles.

Luc Sterckx

Chairman of the Board

Luc Sterckx holds a MSc and a PhD in Chemical Engineering, as well as a post-graduate certification in Business Administration. He combines a hands-on, practical approach with general management expertise from a very wide range of companies of various complexities and sizes, including mergers & acquisitions, startups and turnarounds.

Jean-Nicolas Lunden

Board Member

Jean-Nicolas has a financial and management background and led ABInbev’s corporate venture capital group prior to joining SPDG where he manages investments across energy and mobility.

James Pearson

Board Observer

James helps early-stage digital startups – notably in the fields of energy and sustainability tech – to grow and scale through imec.istart’s globally recognized acceleration program and investment fund.

Camille Laufer

Board Observer

Camille is a senior investment associate at SPDG with a background in M&A and private equity within the energy infrastructure sector. She has previously held roles in major utilities such as RTE, Total and Elia Group, as well as in advisory at EY. Camille is dedicated to supporting the sector towards more sustainable energy solutions.

Olivier de Duve

Board Observer

Olivier worked for more than 17 years in investment banking, capital markets and investment management in New York, Paris and London. He now manages Simplicity and Inventures Investment Partners. He is also a Board member and private investor in various start-ups and is active in the Steering Committee of the de Duve Institute, a multidisciplinary biomedical research institute.
