Eneco & OH Leuven open Belgium’s first “energy stadium of the future"
Eneco and OH Leuven have taken a pioneering step toward sustainable sports infrastructure. In October 2025, they unveiled Belgium’s first “energy stadium of the future,” a site that combines large-scale solar generation with multiple Octave One cabinets to optimize energy use on and around the stadium. The installation was carried out by Extravolt & Extrapower, making it a strong example of effective collaboration.

The project integrates over 1,000 solar panels with 6 Octave One air-cooled cabinets, providing 1,290 kWh of storage capacity and 600 kW of power.
This battery system allows the stadium to store excess solar energy during the day and reuse it when demand is high. By shifting consumption in this way, OH Leuven can reduce peak loads, cut grid dependence, and make better use of its own renewable energy instead of importing electricity when prices are high.
The project was developed in collaboration with Eneco as energy partner and Octave as battery technology provider, with Extravolt/Extrapower handling the technical implementation. It shows how large public venues can actively participate in the energy transition. With this installation, OH Leuven is no longer just a sports club, but an example of smart, future-ready public infrastructure.
